The kick-off meeting of the WIDEnzymes project took place on April 12, 2024, in Riga, Latvia. A research unit from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano, coordinated by Prof. Alfonso Gautieri, participates in the project.
The project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe framework program for research and innovation, aims to create a competitive, cross-border, and attractive enzyme technology ecosystem across Widening and non-Widening countries to reduce disparities in Latvia, Slovakia, and Greece while boosting European science, industry, education, and leadership in this crucial domain.
The WIDEnzymes network will merge complementary state-of-the-art and most advanced expertise in biotechnology, drug discovery, and sustainable resources applied to large-scale manufacturing. This unique synergy will focus on elevating scientific excellence, triggering European Research and Innovation system advancements, exploiting top-class innovations commercially, and fostering high-level capacity-building in these isolated European regions.
Italian and Spanish partners, such as Politecnico di Milano, will catalyze the rise of these future EU market’s key players.
